Network Drives

Network drives are available to all faculty, staff, and students. They offer network storage for a limited amount of data that gets backed up nightly. If a user runs out of storage on a drive, they can contact the Helpdesk to have that quota increased.

Network drives automatically map on college-issued computers while connected to the campus network and can be manually mapped on personally owned computers that are connected to the campus network. See Connect to your Network Drive for instructions on connecting to a network drive from your personally owned computer.

A user wishing to access a network drive from off campus must have VPN access (available to faculty and staff only, see Remote Access VPN) or use AVD (See Azure Virtual Desktop). For easiest access to files both on and off campus, it is recommended to use cloud storage through OneDrive.

Drive Types

G: Drive (Personal)

Available to all students and most faculty and staff, the “G: Drive” is a personal network drive. It automatically maps on any college-issued computer, including computers in our classrooms, labs, and the Library. Note: As of Feburary 6, 2023, all new staff will see their G: drives but will not be permitted to save files to them. Please use OneDrive for all file storage.

On a PC, it maps as the G: drive.

On a Mac, it maps as a network drive with the user’s Net ID (ex. jfriar$).

H: Drive (Departmental)

Available to all faculty and staff, the “H: Drive” is a network drive shared among all members of a user’s department.

On a PC, it maps as the H: drive.

On a Mac, it maps as a network drive with the user’s department (ex. “acct” for Accounting or “admission” for Admissions).

N: Drive (Courseware)

Available to all students, faculty, and staff, the “N: Drive” is a network drive used by some faculty and students for coursework or research.

On a PC, it maps as the N: drive.

On a Mac, it maps as a network drive called “courseware.”

Other Network Drives

Various departments and users have other network drives that are shared among individuals or between departments. These drives can be mapped using a variety of letters (PC) or names (Mac).
